When writing an article, we want first time visitors to be attracted to our topics. Like I said about the previous blog tip about using effective titles, we have to incorporate it with a delicious article. There are different ways to make your posts stand out. You have to make your readers attracted and retain their attention to your article.

With an effective title, you have already drawn the attention of your visitor to read your article. If you’re writing about a latest news that is making headlines, try to make your title sound controversial and make it newspaper-like. Remember, do not mislead your readers because you don’t want to drive them away.

Make sure that after you caught their attention, your topic should be worth reading. Be sure to only write

If you can’t make your own web design, find a design that would fit the overall theme of your blog. There are lots of free templates out there that you can customize to your own liking.

With that in mind, here are some tips on how to find the best design for your blog:

Site Navigation

Make sure that your site navigation is in an obvious place. Don’t make your visitors think. Place your site’s navigation on the top part part of your blog, where visitors do not have to scroll down. Another one of my pet peeves is an image map navigation. Sometimes the images do not load. If you still insist on having an image map navigation, make sure you have an alternative set of text links.

Choose the right colors

If you want to attract a certain type of audience, find a color scheme that is fitting to them. Limit the color palettes to 3 colors or 5 colors maximum. You don’t want to overwhelm your visitors. Some may may think that your color overuse is tacky and cheap. You may need a ColorSchemer gallery to find the best colors for your website.

Make it readable

By that, I mean, use appropriate fonts. There are lots of fonts out there and you can customize them to any size. Your best bet is a serif font, Georgia is one of my favorites. You can never go wrong with Arial, Geneva, Courier and Times, while Verdana is said to be the easiest to read on the screen. Make sure that the size of your font is not too big or too small. Please do not use 7pt as your font size.

Use CSS

Cascading Style Sheets is essential to maintain the consistency of your design. It makes it possible to separate different styles for different sections of your blog pages. It is easy to learn CSS because it is very straightforward. You can find different tutorials online if you want to become an expert. Well, you have to be an expert, or at least get the grasp of CSS if you want have a good design.

Make it flexible

We are aware that there are other web browsers out there besides Internet Explorer. Test your designs in other browsers, too, like Mozilla Firefox or Opera. What looks good in IE may be a disaster in Firefox. You don’t want to drive Firefox users away. Majority of online users are not using IE anymore.

Keep those simple tips in mind in order to find an effective design for your blog, but remember, a good design does not equal good content. I’ve seen a lot of websites out there that have a really good design, but lacks an appealing content. Are you one of them?

Most bloggers overlook their entry titles. Some of them type in whatever comes to mind, like maybe, the title of the last song they heard, which, in most cases, are irrelevant to the content of the entry.

In order for the readers to be interested to read your article, you must use titles effectively. What do I mean by that? Simple. Make sure that the title is in relation to your article and it should be longer than 2 words.

Longer titles usually get more attention. A person will be more compelled to remain glued to your website. Do you notice how we scan headlines in newspapers or magazines before we read them? Reading online has the same effect, so make sure you take advantage of using a correct, creative and longer title. Of course, having an effective title goes hand in hand with a relevant article. Make sure that the article is interesting in itself.

If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few years and have just discovered blogging, then this post is for you. After almost 8 years of being online, I have picked up a lot of tips and tricks to make your own blog rock! Well, it can help you get in there.

Get a unique domain name.
Getting a domain name is quite easy, but thinking of something unique is quite hard. Most of the domains today have been registered, so I suggest getting a name that is not too long, but is somewhat related to you. It must have an easy recall.

Find the best tool for you.
There are so many blogging tools out there, but I suggest that you find the one that you are comfortable with. I chose WordPress as my blog publishing tool because it is easy to use and you can install a lot of free plugins to enhance your blog.

Simplicity is key.
While a blog design has a great impact on your visitors, having a lot of clutter can also drive them away. Choose only the essential elements to add on your index page. Stay away from moving images and blinking backgrounds.

Provide rich content.
It is essential to offer a unique content to keep your visitors coming back. Write about what interests you and do not be afraid to talk about your opinion. It is fine to stir out a debate from your readers. Be interesting. Write tips about the things that you know, or share your opinion about the latest news.

Update regularly.
Blog at least 3 times a week. Do not let spiderwebs accumulate your pages! Now, if you ran into a writer’s block, you can try reading 101 Great Posting Ideas and pick up an idea or two.

Interact with your readers
When someone leaves a comment on your entry and it requires an anwer, or you just want to share your opinion about the comment, go ahead, email him back, or install a comment-email-responder plugin.

Enjoy!
Remember, you are also blogging for yourself. It is important that you enjoy what you are writing about. After all, if you don’t like what you are doing, you will end up abandoning blogging in no time!
