Blog Tips for Beginners
If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few years and have just discovered blogging, then this post is for you. After almost 8 years of being online, I have picked up a lot of tips and tricks to make your own blog rock! Well, it can help you get in there.
- Get a unique domain name.
Getting a domain name is quite easy, but thinking of something unique is quite hard. Most of the domains today have been registered, so I suggest getting a name that is not too long, but is somewhat related to you. It must have an easy recall. - Find the best tool for you.
There are so many blogging tools out there, but I suggest that you find the one that you are comfortable with. I chose Wordpress as my blog publishing tool because it is easy to use and you can install a lot of free plugins to enhance your blog. - Simplicity is key.
While a blog design has a great impact on your visitors, having a lot of clutter can also drive them away. Choose only the essential elements to add on your index page. Stay away from moving images and blinking backgrounds. - Provide rich content.
It is essential to offer a unique content to keep your visitors coming back. Write about what interests you and do not be afraid to talk about your opinion. It is fine to stir out a debate from your readers. Be interesting. Write tips about the things that you know, or share your opinion about the latest news. - Update regularly.
Blog at least 3 times a week. Do not let spiderwebs accumulate your pages! Now, if you ran into a writer’s block, you can try reading 101 Great Posting Ideas and pick up an idea or two. - Interact with your readers
When someone leaves a comment on your entry and it requires an anwer, or you just want to share your opinion about the comment, go ahead, email him back, or install a comment-email-responder plugin. - Enjoy!
Remember, you are also blogging for yourself. It is important that you enjoy what you are writing about. After all, if you don’t like what you are doing, you will end up abandoning blogging in no time!

Great article. The only thing I would suggest is that people do not use an automated comment e-mail responder. I find that it just adds more to people’s inbox than they already have and can be annoying in my opinion.

I find that the Comment Email Responder plugin works perfectly for me. It gets people back to my blog and it’s in no way unsolicited, as you are simply responding to a comment that someone has left you. It’s nice to be able to continue the conversation …

All very good tips. I see too many blog with little or no new content added and the blogger wonders why no-one is visiting or commenting on their blog! Blogging is a long-term project.

I too don’t like the auto responder e-mails. It doesn’t have the personal touch.
I agree with your last point on “Enjoying blogging”. Absolutely right. I think this is the most important thing to take note. I have faced ups and downs in my interest to blog. To keep motivating yourself to blog is critical for the success of your blog. Thanks.
